Hey guys! I've been trying to work on special tumblr posts involving the characters and what their houses would be! I'd like some input from everyone, and just general discussion about it. I tried to start this convo on tumblr, and didn't get far but this place is perfect for that. Also yes I've seen the buzzfeed article regarding it, and really don't agree with it.
Personally this is what I've come up with so far: Quentin: Ravenclaw (I know I've seen Gryffindor for him a lot, but it always brings me back to the Alice quote of him being the most unbelievable pussy.. so I can't ever see it) Alice: Hufflepuff (because shes so incredibly loyal) Julia: Slytherin Eliot: Ravenclaw (his was the toughest) Janet/Margo: Slytherin Penny: Gryffindor
also feel free to add any characters you think I might/should do. These are just the main ones I want to include.

gurl you forgot to link to the buzzfeed article :b anyways, i dont know much about houses, but i could see penny and margo in slytherin. and of course, marina would be slytherinim conflicted with julia and kady. like they could be slytherin, but not for certain

I see Penny as Gryffindor only because he is the one that almost initiates most things in the series... like he's the reason they go to Fillory. Plus he's prideful and boasting but more in a Gryff way than a Slytherin way.
I see Julia as Slytherin because she is so cunning in her escapades. Kady might also be Gryffindor.

I'm kind of fond of Gryff!Q, despite the pussy quote, and that aside, some Gryffindors either aren't brave at all (Pettigrew), or it shows differently or later (Neville). It's a lot about what you think is important and what you value. Which I think could be Q. Though tbh I think he'd fit in with Ravenclaws pretty nicely too and that's usually my second choice. I just felt the urge to ramble. Also Eliot is totally the hardest. I an see him as p much anything but a Hufflepuff.

I like the idea of Gryff!Q but imo he just isn't a Gryffindor.. he does have brave tendencies at times... but idk he just feels so Ravenclaw to me, because of his introvertedness, his escapist-ness is also very Ravenclaw... the fact he loses himself whole-heartedly into the series, and how he relies on that knowledge to succeed. I think he also strives to be intelligent, and is in no way really prideful or cocky which is mostly associated with Gryff or Slytherin. It's the little things that make him a Ravenclaw, but I definitely think he has Gryffindor undertones. I might do split houses for some characters because he is a Gryffinclaw a lot I think. and for Eliot, if you had to place him indefinitely into a house or two houses what would it be and what traits stand out?

i think martin is a gryffindor. like he has some slytherin tendencies but he acts very gryffindor. my first instinct for jane is hufflepuff because of her nonstop trying to fix things (not sure if that needs a spoiler warning but better safe than sorry i suppose) im not sure though. the other chatwins arent really talked about as much so idk about them. maybe ravenclaw for plover? hmmm.... gryffindor for josh? and either ravenclaw or slytherin for mayakovsky. charlie (alices brother) is def a hufflepuff with ravenclaw tendencies. dean fogg is a ravenclaw maybe?

I agree with all of them except Alice - I think she would be a Gryffindor. I get a real Hermione vibe from her obviously, but also she is just like crazy brave. How she got into Brakebills, the spell she tried to do to 'save' Charlie (and how far she clearly would have taken it if Q hadn't stepped in), the fight with the beast.. I think she's very clever and has that fighting, never give up spirit that says Gryffindor to me.
I definitely see Q as a Ravenclaw.
Eliot is by far the toughest imo, he is such a complex character that its really difficult to place him.

I do kinda like Hale Appleman's answer of "Gryffindor with some Slytherin tendencies" for Eliot. Ugh, that boy was definitely a hatstall, I swear to god. I can see Eliot maybe fancying himself a Slytherin, so there is that. But I think his story aligns very well with a more heroic Gryffindorish arc, and I think that's where his heart might be? Also he's not necessarily super ambitious. And he's pretty apathetic to things like bloodline. So while he's got the cunning and the wit and the small, closed circle and the air of superiority of a Slyth, I think he's probably not super Slytherin overall?

You seee though, I really hate the idea of all Slytherin's are evil.... so it would be amazing to see heroic Slytherin, and that's kind of what I see him as. Hmm maybe someone should Ask Lev where he sorts his own characters.

Also Hufflepuff is not only brave, but they are loyal af too, considering they are the only ones to help the Gryffindor's fight during the Battle of Hogwarts. I do think she has Gryffindor tendencies but isn't a full fledged one, I see Ravenclaw more as her secondary. I feel like Hufflepuff is constantly tossed off to the side, and when you read full descriptions of the houses and not just popular! traits, she fits more as a Huff.

I read Janet as one, and I hardly think she's evil, and I have plenty of other fandom hc's for Slyths haha. I just think he only shows some o the more outward signs, and he does lack some of the other ones, good or bad both, so it's sorta like Hrmm... He's not a perfect fit to any one so it gets hairy. I think it comes to splitting hairs with this one.

Will respond in earnest sometime tomorrow, but meanwhile, are you all aware of the sortinghatchats system? If not, you should acquaint yourselves. But fair warning, you'll spend like...days in there.

Of anyone, I think that Alice would be in Ravenclaw. She's the smartest and largest over-achiever, even if she acts like she isn't.
She'd also be in the Horned Serpent House at Ilvermorny because she and her entire family are so scholarly.

Also forgot to mention (sorry) it has been confirmed that not all slytherin are evil. Apparently Merlin was one
